61-63 Jarvis

Victorian Shopfronts Facing St. James Park
61–63 Jarvis Street, Toronto, Ontario
Commissioned by barrister Clarkson Jones and completed by 1873, this pair of three‑storey commercial blocks blends red‑brick façades, buff‑brick pilasters and a bracketed cornice—hallmarks of late‑19th‑century Classical commercial design. Designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act in 2008, the restored buildings now anchor retail and studio spaces opposite the green expanse of St. James Park.

Set in Old Town’s St. Lawrence precinct, Jarvis Street mingles pre‑Confederation landmarks, design showrooms and market‑fresh eateries—all steps from St. James Cathedral and the famed St. Lawrence Market.
Exposed brick walls, lofty timber joists and a dramatic skylight flood the open‑plan floors with daylight, creating flexible galleries and creative workspaces behind the meticulously preserved Victorian façade.
